Gates Coffeehouse
Overview
The Gates Coffeehouse Series aims to help create a global network of future leaders by developing and hosting quality virtual conferences, webinars and online collaborative opportunities between individuals from all parts of the globe.
Conferences and webinars will focus on topics addressing career development, global challenges, politics and education. While webinars may discuss or lecture individuals on a particular topic, it should be important that panelists inspire, assist and enable individuals who are interested in pursuing a particular goal. For example, a panelist discussing youth and authorship should not only address the topics of his or her publishing, but also the mechanics, challenges and rewards of writing and publishing at a young age.
Conferences and webinars will be coordinated by utilizing our extensive academic networks, such as the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, Marshal Scholarship, Rhodes Scholarship, Gates Millennium Scholarship, and professional networks such as the American Bar Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Commonwealth Club. These networks will help both identify quality panelists and advertise upcoming events.
The Coffeehouse Initiative is sponsored by the Gates Cambridge Scholars Society in close coordination with partner organizations and in accordance with the goals of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Ambassadors Program
As we further become a globalized world, international education and scholarship programs have the ability to broaden perspectives, create international social and professional networks and increase understanding across nationalities and cultures. The Ambassadors program aims to improve awareness, understanding and transparency into the opportunities of and benefits in international education.
Using standard presentations and talking points, Gates Ambassadors engage public and private universities, student groups and partner associations to help make international education more accessible to students at the high school, undergraduate and graduate levels. Engagement occurs both through live presentations and through virtual media. To date, we have networked with over 30 U.S. institutions and have addressed thousands of interested scholars.
The Ambassadors Program is currently focused on increasing transparency of the application process to Cambridge University and the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. As the program grows in the future, we hope to partner more extensively with similar international
